I love Miss Mouse’s Day Care. I mean, heck, they’re willing to even attempt the cloth diapers which is more than some establishments will do. And I think that most of the time, they do a really good job of providing both age-appropriate care and age-appropriate food. But sometimes, there’s a glitch in the system.
When I arrived to pick Miss Mouse up today, I learned that — contrary to what the published menu stated — the afternoon snack in the Infant 2 room had been Mrs. Fields sugar cookies.
Um, hello? Excuse me? Sugar cookies? As a baby snack? REALLY?!? Call me crazy, but that is way off base.
We try pretty hard not to give Miss Mouse unnecessary sugar. Yes, she eats graham crackers and yogurt and things like that. But we serve unsweetened applesauce and only give her regular Cheerios. She’s going to be demanding sweets soon enough – why encourage the sweet tooth?
So I had a chat with the center director and will be sending a written list of acceptable and not-acceptable snacks to school tomorrow. I really don’t want to be “that mom” who is super high maintenance and generally crazy. But there are some things I just can’t compromise on. And sugar cookies for my ten month old fall into that category!
