Meanwhile back at home…

September 17th, 2009

As I mentioned before, this trip has been baby-free. After careful consideration, Miss Mouse decided she would prefer to stay home with grandpa and grandma rather than travel to Savannah. While we were, of course, eager to have an eleven month old join us on our romantic getaway, we respected her decision to spend quality time with my parents.

Naturally, she developed an upper respiratory infection the day before we left and has been coughing, snoodling, and running an intermittent fever ever since. Rather than spending a half day at day care each day, playing with her friends, eating a good lunch, and letting her poor grandparents sleep, she’s been home full time.

Despite being sick, she seems to be in pretty good spirits. At least, I draw that conclusion based on the verbs my mother has been using to describe Miss Mouse when I call to check in. “She’s ramming around the living room,” she’ll say. Or, “Miss Mouse spent the morning bouncing in her crib and bashing around the bedroom, flinging toys.” Very few references to naps have been made.

Truly, a fair portion of the credit for making this trip a great success lies with my parents. Beyond graciously agreeing to entertain a wild Mouse for a week, they also gave us four gift cards to local Savannah restaurants as an anniversary gift. Although we hadn’t said so out loud, I believe they sensed our intention to “eat on the cheap” — mainly at fast food establishments. Instead, we’ve dined at very nice restaurants, mostly in the historic district. Yum.

i love those gift cards! They gave us some as a housewarming present and we've gotten so addicted that we've started giving them as presents, too! It's so nice to be sitting around thinking, 'gosh I wish we could go to a restaurant right now but I really don't want to think too hard about where to go or have to spend too much' and realize that there is a pre-made, pre-paid decision sitting right there on the fridge. Sanity-savers, indeed!

FYI – we checked with Mousie, and she says she wants to go home with us. You're welcome, of course, to come visit whenever you can.
