We’re visiting Josh’s parents for the holiday weekend and celebrating their 30th wedding anniversary. We thought we’d be smart and time our departure to coincide with Miss Mouse’s bedtime. Give her a bottle, pop her in the car seat.
I already posted about how well that idea worked. But then, to add insult to injury, once we arrived at their house at 11 o’clock at night, she got a second wind.
We’re talking bright eyed, bushy tailed, no sign of wanting to go to bed. She bounced around until nearly midnight before finally consenting to close her eyes. Then she woke up at 5am, right on schedule. She did sleep for a couple more hours once we let her snuggle up in bed with us.
Clearly, from now on, we’ll be driving at nap time rather than bedtime. That has worked in the past. The moral of the story: if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it. What possessed us to deviate from a routine that had worked??
