Figuring It Out

One of the most amazing things in the world (or at least in my world) is to watch Miss Mouse discover new things. It is absolutely captivating.
Over the past week, she’s done a few of them and I marvel each time. First there was the invention of a new fun game called “have mommy and grandma tip me over in the laundry basket.” Now, this may not sound that fun to you, but my girl was a huge fan. She already enjoyed playing the game of “daddy pushes me around the house in the laundry basket” but mommy and grandma are wimps and didn’t have the energy for that little maneuver.
So, instead, on a whim, I just leaned her backward toward me while she sat in the basket. Then grandma did the same from the other side. And instantly it clicked. Miss Mouse would giggle madly when one of us tilted her, then purposefully scoot around in the basket so that her back was to the other one and wait expectantly. Again and again.
Then came the shape sorting toy. Oh my. I bought her one of those toys where you fit the shaped pegs into the shaped holes — circle, square, triangle. It took her a few minutes, but when she got that circle in its spot, her whole face lit up, she threw up her hands, and then started applauding herself.
Well, done babe!
