Why is it that our children inherit our negative physical traits, not the good ones? Why didn’t Miss Mouse get her daddy’s amazing immune system that instantly slays any and all germs and then mocks them for their feeble attempts?

When I was a kid, there was a period of years when I was sick each and every Halloween. Like clockwork. October 31st? Cue the bronchitis.

And so it should come as no surprise when I tell you that at today’s Boo Bash at KinderCare, there was one small giraffe missing from the Halloween parade. She was instead hanging out at home, snorking, snotting, coughing, and fever-ing.

The first three ailments appear to stem from a cold, while the fourth can be blamed on her emergent molars. I was sure it was swine flu and packed her off to the doctor this afternoon. I was relieved to hear it’s just her right side top and bottom molars…although the nurse warned us that it could be several weeks before they’re in and not to expect to sleep well until then. Arg!

Oh dear. You're quite right. I hadn't made the connection with you and Halloween. sigh.
