My Little Book-Worm

November 16th, 2009

My Jelly Bean loves to read, or be read to, if we are being precise. When this trend first began she would pick up the nearest book, hand it to me, make her way into my lap, and stare at me expectantly, grinning from ear to ear. And then we would read. One book after another, most of them multiple times, until I was too tired to carry on.

This evening, though, as I was wrangling Jelly Bean while Kate went to a meeting, we were killing some time before the ‘bed-time-routine- got underway. She decided this would be a good time to read. I plopped her down on the floor and told her to pick out a story.

Little did I know she would actually choose a story. When she made it to her bookshelf she stood there for about fifteen seconds or so glancing over her shelves until she found the book she really wanted to read. Once she chose the book she brought it to me, giggling all the way, and we read the story. When we finished that one I sent her back to her bookshelf and, once again, she carefully chose the specific book she wanted.

It was amazing to see her figure this out, to make a decision. I am a voracious reader myself and have a hard time choosing my next book. It looks like that apple did not fall far from the tree.
