For the last two months, I have been on a search — nay, a quest — for the perfect baby doll to give Miss Mouse for Christmas. I am not a huge fan of dolls, to be honest (don’t get me started on the whole Barbie thing), but Miss Mouse loves the dolls at school and I do feel like every child should receive a doll from her mom at some point. Mine was a cabbage patch doll that Santa brought me one Christmas.
In any case, once I decided to buy her one, the issue became finding a good baby doll. Because let me tell you, there are a lot of very scary dolls out there.
I really wanted to avoid bells, whistles, and the ability to perform bodily functions. I was looking for organic, hand-made, and preferably Waldorf-style, with limited facial features. The problem with most of those dolls is the price tag. They can easily run over $100, which seems excessive for a one year old.
But at long last, I found The One, from a great toy company called Nova Natural. She’s made out of soft terry cloth and stuffed with wool. The wool stuffing is cool because it warms up when cuddled. She’s fair-trade and was made in India. She’s just perfect. I can’t wait to introduce her to Miss Mouse.
