Mouse Versus Tree
December 8th, 2009
Last year at this time, Miss Mouse was an infant. Her experience of Christmas was pretty much limited to being strapped into her bouncy chair in front of the Christmas tree (which she enjoyed mightily). But this year it’s a whole new ballgame.
And so, it was with some trepidation that I decorated our Christmas tree last week. I love our tree. I love lights and ornaments and the way the tree glows happily in the corner of our living room. But I have a toddler. What to do?? Don’t put one up? Wrap the whole thing in bubble wrap? Only put on non-breakable ornaments?
I ended up with a compromise. I put non-breakable ornies down at baby height and breakable pretties higher up. Those few ornaments that are extremely fragile and non replaceable I left in their box this year.
And wonder of wonders, Miss Mouse has behaved admirably around the tree. She loves it and spends a lot of time walking around it, gazing at and pointing at the ornaments. But (knock on wood) she has not yet taken to yanking said ornaments off the tree.
Here she is, showing me her favorites.
