A Fashion Triumph (I Hope)
January 23rd, 2010
My long-time friend Emily and her partner Stephanie are tying the knot in Florida next month and I’m heading down for the wedding (ya hoo!). While I’m thrilled to be there for their special day, the event has been the source of some serious stress for me in recent weeks. Namely, what to wear on such an occasion?
The first problem is location and date. What does one wear to a winter wedding in Florida? I’m not sure what the temperature will be like and have no idea if Floridians adhere to that whole “no white after Labor Day” thing. I suspect not.
Then there’s the problem stemming from the bride herself. Emily has always been fashionable. Starting when we were in elementary school, she made clothes for herself that were always funky and 100% her. A stint of living in London during and after college only heightened her fashion instincts.
Suffice to say, the girl is rockin’ and thus I feel I must strive to do right by her on her big day.
Amazingly, I believe I found the perfect dress today. The fact that my outfit is a dress at all is somewhat amazing because I don’t do dresses. I inevitably feel frumpy in them. But not this one! It’s lipstick pink (oh my), halter top, a bit of slink over the hips, and falls to just below the knee (which is a must as my thighs do not make public appearances these days).
Jewelry is black and chunky and chic. Shoes TBD but I believe there will be pink toenail polish involved. I’m pumped.
