I’ve traditionally had an on-again off-again relationship with the big blue and yellow store. I’ve never been one to become a slave to the Ikea nesting instinct,* because, by and large, Swedish ultra-modern just isn’t my look. But some of their stuff is pretty fabulous.

Like their kid products, for example. This weekend, we headed to Ikea to pick up a bookcase for the living room. We returned with said bookcase, but somehow a toy box and an awesome kiddie craft table and stool also leaped into the cart.

Check this thing out! I love it! It’s super light weight and ever so funky. Right now it’s residing in the living room, but it could easily live in Miss Mouse’s room, too — the colors are just right.

Miss Mouse is a big fan of her table. They have tables and chairs at day care and that’s where she eats her meals and does craft projects, but until now, there was nothing at home that was mouse-sized. She just oozed self-satisfaction as she sat at her table on Sunday, methodically arranging (and gnawing on) her Fisher Price Noah’s Ark animals.

The fact that her feet don’t actually touch the ground when sitting on her stool upsets her not at all. It gives her license to point at toys beyond her reach and grunt imperiously when she wants me to pick them up and hand them to her.

*Name that movie reference.
