Nom de Utero
March 14th, 2010
Several people have asked what we’re calling Baby2 in utero. When I was pregnant with Miss Mouse, she was known as Squishy (a reference pulled from the movie, Finding Nemo) and most everyone called her that, well beyond just Josh and myself.
I have several pregnant friends now and each has a unique name for their developing offspring. There’s Skeletor and Itchy and I’ve even heard of Cletus (as in Cletus the Fetus — I find that one questionable).
But for some reason, this time around I just haven’t really “felt” the right name. We’ve kicked around Squirt. And Josh advocated for Bloat (and was rejected). But nothing has stuck and I mostly refer to Baby 2 as, well, Baby 2.
I suspect it has a lot to do with the fact that this is my second pregnancy. When you’re pregnant for the first time, all of your attention is focused on the little person growing inside of you. You live the pregnancy 24/7 and can hardly be bothered to think about anything else.
This time around, I have a toddler commanding 102% of my attention and time and so I find that, while I’m super excited to be having another child, I simply am less focused on the pregnancy itself. I’m guessing that will change somewhat as the months pass and Baby2 becomes more noticeable and active in there. And perhaps then the right name will present itself.
