About the Bunny…
April 3rd, 2010
While Miss Mouse and I were at the grocery store recently, some kindly older woman was fawning over her (it happens a lot) and asked — “Is the Easter Bunny going to bring you lots of candy?”
Now, the fact that we were in the middle of Giant Eagle and she was a complete stranger meant that I smiled and nodded, but the actual answer is “no, we aren’t actually doing the whole Easter Bunny Thing.”
It was a tough decision. I loved the Easter Bunny when I was small. At least I think I did. I clearly remember loving Easter baskets and following a trail of candy to find said basket. I’d wake up in the morning, and the trail would start right outside my bedroom door. I’d follow it through the house until I reached the basket of goodies. What’s not to love?
But I’m married to a minister now, and — interestingly enough — the Bible actually makes no reference to a magical candy-bearing rabbit. Shocking, I know.
And so, in the interest of keeping Easter a religious holiday as much as possible, we’ve decided to forgo the bunny. But fear not! I do have an Easter basket assembled for my wee creature. It just comes from us and not the magic bunny. And I can live with that.
