An Unexpected Gift
April 23rd, 2010
I received an unexpected gift today. This morning at work, I was approached by one of my coworkers — a lovely godly woman of whom I am fond — who informed me that God had told her she should pray for my son. Not in a “there’s something wrong” kind of way, just in a “blessing and love” kind of way.
I was a bit taken aback because my own relationship with God doesn’t usually involve such concrete discussions, but there’s no way I’m turning down a present like that!
My coworker had me sit down, then knelt before me, placed her hand on my stomach, and proceeded to pray — fervently, eloquently, and out-loud — over the little guy growing inside me. It was one of the most beautiful things ever and naturally, I burst into discrete tears.
It was such an unexpected moment. She and I are friendly, but not particularly close, and she seemed somewhat bemused herself by the force of her own conviction, but felt strongly that God had laid it on her heart to give this blessing to my child.
It was awesome.
