Josh has lofty literary tastes. He reads largely nonfiction and The Classics and one of his favorite books is The Three Musketeers. I tend to slum it a bit more when it comes to my choice of reading materials so I’ll confess that my only knowledge of the story comes from the Disney version that came out in the early 90s. My deep and abiding love for that movie shall never die. I used to make my parents rent it and then I’d watch it three or four times in a row before allowing them to return it.
Luck for me, Josh also loves that flick. It’s one of the bonds that makes our marriage strong.
And it is from this magical movie that we have drawn the in utero name for our son. Until he is born, the wee little guy shall be known as Porthos. This decision is in honor of the delightful portrayal of the character by Oliver Platt. The chubby physique is a nod to my increasing portliness and the wildly exuberant personality a reflection of our kid’s display at the ultrasound.
