To the Heart via the Tummy

May 23rd, 2010

They say that the fastest route to a man’s heart is through his stomach. It turns out this is equally, if not more, true of toddlers.

Miss Mouse has been displaying a puzzling amount of stranger anxiety lately — and she frequently chooses odd people to deem “strangers.” Like Aunt Meg and Aunt Melissa, for example. In the last few days, she’s pretended not to know either of them.

Why? Who knows. She’s fickle.

In any case, Melissa was staying with us this weekend and was going to watch Miss Mouse for a few hours yesterday. I was a bit concerned, when — after an evening of quality time — my ornery creature still wasn’t warming up to her.

But then yesterday morning, we went to the local Farmer’s Market together, stopping at a coffee shop for beverages and…

…blueberry muffins.

Ah, blueberry muffins. How can a Mouse resist? The moment Aunt Melissa dug into her muffin, she suddenly became very very interesting to Miss Mouse. Moments later, my shrinking violet was settled in her aunt’s lap, happily munching on blueberry bliss. And from then on, all was well between them.

Hmm – does this mean I get to start bringing the Mousling cookies when I come to visit?

I think this is a bit like bringing biscuits to Fala…Treats to sooth the savage beastie.
