These days, I often feel like an elderly hobbit.
Ha, that got your attention, didn’t it? It’s true though. During these final weeks of pregnancy, I frequently call to mind a quote by one Mr. Bilbo Baggins on the occasion of his 111th birthday in the movie The Lord of the Rings.
Quoth Mr. Baggins: “I feel thin — sort of stretched, like butter scraped over too much bread.“
Now, I won’t say that “thin” is an adjective I use much on myself these days, but the feeling of being over-stretched is one I can definitely relate to. I don’t know how much more expansion my poor tummy can take. It literally feels like the skin has been pulled too tight and I’m just waiting to pop.
Interestingly, I don’t have much in the way of stretch marks and their appearance doesn’t coincide with the geography which causes me most discomfort. How odd is that?
