The Sound of Desperation

August 16th, 2010

Have you ever wondered what true desperation sounds like? I heard it last night at 7:17pm.

I had just finished putting an unwilling Mouse to bed and was listening to the baby monitor as she shrieked and moaned and carried on. She does that sometimes — often when she’s overtired. At first, it was just general fuss, but then she started directing her pleas to specific potential saviors.

First it was — “MOMMMMMMYYYYYYYYYY!!!!!

Then, “DADDDDDDDYYYYYYYYY!!!

And finally, “RILEYYYYYYYY!!!”

Yes, she was calling for the dog. That’s what I call desperation. When you try to enlist the help of the family canine — who doesn’t even like you much — to break you out of baby crib prison.

How on earth could you resist that plea for help? I think you should have sent Riley upstairs…

  2. Kate says:

Josh wondered if perhaps her calls for Riley stemmed from the Good Dog Carl books, since in the one it shows Carl getting the baby out of his crib! It's not a bad theory, given how much she likes those books!!

  3. Opa says:

I'm dismayed that she didn't ask for Nana and Papu!
