Concerning Hobbits (On Birthdays)
October 15th, 2010
Miss Mouse is 2 today! I can hardly believe it has been two years since my little girl came into the world. Over the last couple of years I have, at times, compared the Mouse to a hobbit (in my near obsession with The Lord of the Rings), and here we go again. If you have read The Lord of the Rings you will remember that it is hobbit tradition to present other hobbits with gifts on one’s own birthday (see ‘A Long Expected Party,’ Ch. 1, LOTR). With that in mind we sent the Mouse to school today with gifts for her little friends: pudding cups and ‘There’s a Wocket in my Pocket.’ She even carried the gifts into her classroom. The problem became, though, that she did not want to then relinquish said gifts. Young hobbits sometimes have trouble with that one. Happy Birthday, Mouse! I love you.
