Halloween Part 3: The Hike
October 31st, 2010
Picture, if you will, a rambunctious group of twenty-five “under-eight-year-olds” decked out in Halloween splendor. Super heroes, animals, and a bevy of fairy princesses, along with a pirate or two, a Jedi night, and a Harley Davidson biker boy.
Now picture them stomping through the woods.
I give you the Tyke Hikes Halloween Party 2010. It was a blast. Miss Mouse, Little Bear, Aunt Meg, and I all joined in the festivities on Tuesday. The kids suited up in their costumes for a short but enjoyable hike through Schenley Park. Along the way, we collected Halloween-appropriate flora (like the weird “monkey brain” Miss Mouse is holding in the picture below. I can’t remember what it actually is, but it came off a tree…) and stopped to do leaf and tree rubbings.
Miss Mouse was particularly enamored of this woodland craft project. She marched from tree to tree with Aunt Meg, each time musing – “How ’bout this one?” – and then confirming the appropriateness of her choice with an emphatic – “yes, that’s a good one!” – before getting to work with her paper and crayon.
It was her first foray in her cow costume and she was a big fan. I know I start a lot of sentences like this, but seriously, is there anything cuter than
a two-year-old in a cow costume hiking through a park?
