January 8th, 2011
Alright, folks. We’re one week into the new year. Your grace period is over. What year is it? Let’s all repeat together:
That’s right. This year is twenty-eleven. Not, “two-thousand-eleven.” Did you hear me? Is this sinking in?
When we were back in the aughts, I was willing to go with the flow. “Two-thousand-eight” clearly rolls off the tongue better than “twenty-oh-eight.” And last year was a year of transition so I could forgive a few “two-thousand-ten” mistakes.
But enough is enough. Two-thousand-eleven sounds dumb. And cumbersome. And sort of sloppy. Let’s all tighten up our calendrical utterances and repeat together — Twenty-Eleven.
