Mommy Can I?
January 13th, 2011
At school, Miss Mouse’s teachers must be working on the concept of asking permission because at least a quarter of her sentences start with the words “can I?” It’s really quite nice to hear her asking politely for things instead of issuing imperious commands.
“Mommy can I have some milk?”
“Mommy can I play with Little Bear?”
And, of course, my favorite: “Mommy, can I have a hug?”
She does tend to over-apply the requests, though. She asks permission way more than is strictly necessary.
“Mommy, can I leave my socks on?”
“Mommy, can I eat the corn in my bowl?”
“Mommy, can I sit here on the floor?”
“Mommy, can I put on my pajamas?”
I’m certainly not going to dissuade her — I’d rather have that than the steady stream of bossy commands that used to issue from her mouth!
