I had a plan for this evening. It went something like this:
Step 1 — Leave work at 2pm to drive home and,
Step 2 — Go to the Winter Gala at Miss Mouse’s school, surrounding which there was much enthusiasm, and then
Step 3 — Drive back across town for an evening Board meeting at work.
It was a bit of a cumbersome plan involving an extra hour and a half in the car, but it was worth it. The Board meeting was important and I didn’t want to get in the habit of missing Miss Mouse’s activities because of work stuff.
Then it started snowing, and it all fell apart. Stupid weather.
I was about three quarters of the way home when Josh called to inform me that the Winter Gala had been postponed on account of the weather. Then, when we left the house to pick up the kiddos, the street was so snowy that the car darned near didn’t make it up the hill. I had images of calling KinderCare to inform them that one of the teachers was going to have to take my kids home with her for the night.
But we made it and returned home. I decided that if the snow plow hadn’t shown up by 5:45, I was officially bailing on the meeting. We all piled into bed for a rousing game of “hide the Mouse under the blankets and tickle her” while we waited. 5:45 came and went. No snow plow.
In celebration of the Snow Day, we made pancakes for dinner and a good time was had by all.
