29 Gifts, Day Eighteen: Extra Z’s — Redux

May 18th, 2011

Today I once again gave the gift of extra sleep.  But this time, I gave it to myself.  Buggie is many things, but a good sleeper is not one of them.  I’ve been sleep deprived for nearly eight months now, and sometimes it’s worse than others.  This weekend, I had a big fundraiser for my non-profit and it set me back in the sleep department.  I didn’t hit my bed until midnight Saturday night and little man was up several times before finally waking for good at 5am.  Egad.

So I called in sick and allowed myself to spend the morning in bed.  I do mean the whole morning. I  closed my eyes at 7:10am and opened them again four hours later.  It was beautiful.

I managed to shake off the “long nap woozies” with a quick shower then headed out for a lunch date with my husband.  Here’s what I love about Weight Watchers –– no foods are forbidden.  Everything has a point value and if you budget your points wisely, you can eat just about anything you want (within reason).  Thus I was able to enjoy a Bob Evans Pot Roast Sandwich for lunch (a half sandwich, actually, with a cup of bean soup) without blowing my diet.  In the interest of full disclosure, I will say that my lunch depleted my stash of points sufficiently that I had only a slice of banana bread and a big fruit salad for dinner, but it seemed a worthy sacrifice!
