29 Gifts, Day One: Cookies for Church

May 1st, 2011

It’s official!   Today marks the start of my 29 Gifts endeavor.  From now through May 29th, I will be making a concerted effort to bless those around me by giving a gift a day.  I started the ball rolling by making (the world’s best) frosted sugar cookies to share with the members of my church during our post-service fellowship time.  They were a big hit, particularly with my daughter.  If Miss Mouse had her way, we’d be making cookies every day for the next month, but I shall strive to branch out beyond baked goods…

I have realized already that one thing I will need to work on is “giving in the moment.”  One of the points of the 29 Gifts experience is to be open to opportunities for generosity.  You’re not really supposed to plan ahead too much, which goes against my instincts to create an Excel spreadsheet of all my gift ideas for the month!  Instead, I am supposed to simply be on the lookout for opportunities to give.  I do have a few loose plans, but I’ll be keeping my eyes and heart open!

Well there goes any chance I have of making this work – if I can't do a spreadsheet, it just won't work.
