29 Gifts, Day Two: A Joyful Noise

May 2nd, 2011

Ha!  One of my big fears about the 29 Gifts project was that I wouldn’t be able to think up gifts every day.  I had to fight the urge to plan out a month of gifts in advance and then execute them.  But I vowed to take it a day at a time and to see what opportunities present themselves.

This morning, I cleared out several weeks worth of random mail that had accumulated in my mailbox at work.  And what should I find but an invitation to the annual fundraiser of East Liberty Family Health Care Center?  ELFHCC is a Christian practice dedicated to providing whole-person care, particularly to the poor.  They have  a terrific outreach to the homeless and a thriving doula program, including bilingual doulas to provide support to Spanish-speaking mothers.

And, it’s my practice.  I’ve been going there since I moved to Pittsburgh and both my children were delivered by their docs.

I can’t afford the ticket price, but I sent in a $15 donation.

Now I’m even more excited to see what other opportunities await over the next several weeks!!
