Our family is growing, but it’s not (quite) what you think…

May 8th, 2011

Mother’s Day seems like a very appropriate day to share the exciting news that my family is growing!  But before you raise your eyebrows and start quickly counting on your fingers (Buggie is only seven months old, after all), I’ll elaborate and say that this time, we are adding to our clan via adoption.

Josh and I have set our feet on the long and winding road of international adoption.  We have submitted the first of what will be many many pieces of paperwork and have been formally accepted into the Ethiopia Adoption Program of a national adoption agency with a local branch here in Pittsburgh.  With luck, approximately two years from now we will be welcoming home our third child!

That timetable is why we’re starting the process now.  International adoption (referred to by those on the inside as “inter-country adoption”) is a very slow process.  There’s a lot of paperwork and a lot of “process” as both our country and the birth country do their best to make sure that the children being adopted really are eligible and that the parents seeking adoption really are worthy.

I’ll be blogging our journey and look forward to sharing this experience with you!
