More Birthday Boy

September 24th, 2011

I was too wiped out last night to do more than throw up a quick birthday picture.  Buggie had decided to start celebrating early, so Thursday night he woke up at 1:45am and stayed up until 4:15am.  I don’t know why.

Interestingly, this interrupted night didn’t slow him down in the slightest.  He galloped through his birthday with his usual zest.  Or, rather, staggered.  This picture pretty well captures where he’s at in terms of the transition to bi-pedalism.  Not quite there yet, but almost…

We kept the presents pretty simple.  It doesn’t take much to impress a one-year-old.  Tissue paper by itself would actually be just fine for him.  But it’s emotionally difficult for parents to not buy presents, so we got him a few things.  Actually, just one thing: a set of weighted stacking balls.  They’re neat.

He also got a wooden pull train (a gift from a friend last year that I saved until he was older) and a pop up animal game thingy from Josh’s parents.  He’s a big fan.  He can’t quite work the pop ups, but has a good system in place with his big sister.  She pops them up, he pushes them down.

The musical card from my parents was the source of much enjoyment as well!

Unfortunately, he wasn’t a fan of his cupcakes.  They were initially met with deep suspicion, and eventually outright tears.  He never did really eat one.  He sampled a bit of frosting but that was about it.

Miss Mouse on the other hand…  Well, let’s just say she enjoyed her brother’s birthday!

That's because what he really wanted was a Twinkie.
