Ham and Cheese Buns (Recipe)
December 29th, 2011
Disclaimer: this post would be better with a picture. I was too busy munching on these delectable wee bites to take their picture.
My great recipe discovery of our church open house this year was a super easy ham and cheese bun. It’s totally adaptable to different fillings — my mom did mandarin beef and they were fabulous — and comes together easily. They’re also kid-friendly, as little hands can help put the meat and cheese onto the dough, or help brush the buns with egg. Enjoy!
Ham and Cheese Yeast Buns
1 lb frozen bread dough, thawed
¼ pound of deli ham, cut into squares.
¼ pound Swiss cheese, cut into ½” cubes
1 beaten egg
Divide bread dough into 32 portions and roll each into aball. Flatten a dough ball in your palm, squirt with mustard, and place a piece of ham and cheese on dough. Wrap dough up around filling, place seam sidedown on lightly greased baking sheet.
Cover and let rise 20 minutes in a warm place. Brush with egg.
Bake in a 375 oven for about 15 minutes or til light goldenbrown.
Make ahead: Prepare and cook as directed. Cool, tray freeze and toss into freezer bag. To reheat, defrost frozen balls then bake for10 minutes at 350 degrees.
