There’s this snack they feed the kids at daycare called “Critter Munch.” It’s sort of like trail mix for preschoolers (sans nuts). When I was little, a similar entity existed. We called it a “munchie box.” Mostly it was different kinds of cereal all mixed together in an oval tin. I loved the munchie box, so I decided to make something similar for snacks around the house.
I browsed the aisles of the grocery store looking for munchable items and came up with a good supply. Honey Nut Cheerios, mini marshmallows, M&Ms;, animal crackers (which turned out to be too big, Craisins, and goldfish crackers.
There’s no science to the proportions. Just mix all the munchies together until it looks good. I went heavy on the marshmallows because I know Miss Mouse adores them.
I got creative for storage and “upcycled” (oooh, look how green and hip I am) a butter toffee almond container that just happened to be the perfect size to throw in a diaper bag for a day out. It’s got a flip top lid, too, so Miss Mouse can eat her snack in the car.
Sadly, Buggie doesn’t have the dexterity for the container yet and I haven’t figured out a better method of feeding him in the car other than handing him goldfish crackers one by one. It’s not the best system ever. But the snacks are good!
