Pilgrimage to the Recycling Center

May 23rd, 2012

Given that our fair hamlet does not have to-your-door postal delivery, it is unsurprising that they also lack curbside recycling pickup.  However, periodically a trailer appears at the municipal building and you can bring your recyclables there.

Thus it was that Miss Mouse, Buggie, Riley Dog, my father, and I mounted an expedition to the recycling spot this afternoon with our goods.  The site is only a few blocks from our house (just like everything else in SmallTownUSA) so we opted to go on foot.  I packed Buggie into his backpack, leashed the hound, and tucked Miss Mouse and the recyclables into the kids’ little red wagon.

We marched through town and carefully sorted our goods into the container.  Miss Mouse wanted to help, so I handed her items and she cheerfully heaved them in.

She loved it.  It took forever.  It would have been much faster to a) drive up and b) dump the stuff in myself.

But we moved to a small town for a change of pace.  So what if it took 45 minutes?  Our calendars for the rest of the afternoon were quite free, so we turned the outing into an adventure.

A person of lesser convictions about recycling would have simply dumped it all in the garbage. But no, you are my daughter and raising your children to understand and accept recycling is a Good Thing. Thank you!
