Taking Time for the Ripples

August 21st, 2012

It rained this afternoon.  A sudden summer downpour that caught me just as I was arriving home with the kids.   By the time I got them out of their car seats and into the house we were drenched and laughing.  The deluge cooled the weather off to a glorious 70 degrees and after dinner, we set out on foot for a short stroll around the neighborhood.

We were almost home when we came across a puddle in the road.  And there we stopped.  It wasn’t a particularly impressive puddle.  Just a little accumulation of muddy water on a country road.  But it was magic to my kids.

Buggie’s newest love is picking up rocks and throwing them.  Naturally, he was entranced.  His joy sucked in Miss Mouse and the two of them spent the next 45 minutes gleefully picking up handfuls of rocks and tossing them one-by-one into the puddle.

I watched and took pictures and rejoiced in their enthusiasm.

Loved this post, Kate. Reminded me of the glorious “One Thousand Gifts” by Ann Voskamp. My prayer group at work has just finished reading it together. She celebrates things like puddles and pebbles…
