The Letter of the Week Is “F”

The Letter of the Week is “F”.

F…as in Family.  Last week, we headed to Gatlinburg to rendezvous with some of Josh’s family.  Six adults and four kids spent a few nights packed together in a cabin in the woods and had a great time laughing, playing, and eating Bertie Bott’s Every Flavor Beans.  (Well, the three siblings did.  I want no part of something that might taste like vomit.)  Our kiddos particularly loved the fact that their cousin is getting to be old enough to play with!

Cousins

F…as in Fish.  One the agenda was a trip to the Aquarium of the Smokies.  Wow.  I’m not really a fan of aquariums.  Seen one fish, seen them all.  But this place was cool.  They have a massive series of tunnels that go under the tanks so you can see sharks and sting rays swimming over your head.  The kids were entranced.

F…as in 4.4 mile hike.   Through the forest, to some falls, no less.  Josh’s family likes to hike.  They grew up doing big family hikes whenever they went on vacation and everyone was determined to carry on the tradition.  Me?  I like the idea of hiking more than the reality, but I was willing to give it a go. It was a long slog through the woods (made longer by the fact that I was carrying Little Bird strapped to my back!) but we made it.

Family Hike

Miss Mouse surprised me by totally embracing the adventures and proudly hiking all the way to the falls, leading the pack much of the time.  She got a ride on Daddy’s back for the return half of the trip but I was very impressed by her fortitude and great attitude.  When I asked her later what her favorite part of the weekend was, she replied: “Hiking and being brave.”  Love that girl.
