Love Across the Generations

April 4th, 2014

A couple weeks ago, I took my kiddos up to Cincinnati for the weekend.  My mom’s sister lives there, which makes it a great spot for a mini-getaway.  We went to the Children’s Museum and it was pretty spectacular.

But that wasn’t the reason for the trip.

This was why we went:

That’s my granddad.  He’s awesome.

He’ll be ninety-four in June and he lives in Bluffton, OH.  It’s a four hour drive and he lives in a small apartment so visiting him there doesn’t really work.  But I very much want my kiddos to get to spend time with him, so my aunt cheerfully agreed to host us all.

Miss Mouse and Buggie love Grandpa Larry because he’ll read to them – and listen appreciatively when they read to him.

Birdie fell in love with him on this trip, too.  She spent quite a lot of time carefully bringing him her toys, one by one, and placing them in his lap.  I wish I had managed to capture that exchange on camera.  Her smile was radiant. His was gentle and slightly bemused but oh so full of love.

Life’s too short to wait until the holidays to spend time with the people you love most.

That is beautiful. I am so glad my grandma got to meet Maddie, but she was pretty far gone by the time we had her. It is so wonderful to see the generations together!!

So sweet. And Uncle Larry looks wonderful!
